There are great books that I recommend you purchase as you explore the state of Alabama on foot. Here are my favorites.
Five-Star Trails Birmingham
This was written by a friend of mine, Tom Spencer. A Birmingham native, Tom has spent a lot of time on the trails throughout his state. The book is published by Menasha Ridge Press.

60 Hikes Within 60 Miles – Birmingham
Another Menasha Ridge Press publication authored by Russell Helms. This book is a little older than the first book and may not have some of the newer trails.

Hiking Alabama – A Falcon Guide
I was just gifted this book by a friend after my stint as Wood Badge Scoutmaster (S9-119). He assumed I would need something to do and a hike in the woods was his recommendation. This is a full-color book that covers trails throughout the state of Alabama.
